The Androscoggin Retired Educators plan to meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Sixth Street Congregational Church, 109 Sixth St. in Auburn.
This is its annual scholarship auction. Members are asked to bring something for the auction, such as food items, seasonal items, books and puzzles, according to a news release from Elizabeth Bell with the organization.
Lunch costs $12 and will be served by the church.
The group invites all educators: teachers, teacher assistants, secretaries, guidance counselors, anyone who has worked with children. All are welcome. One need not have worked in Androscoggin County or even in Maine.
AREA meets five times per year: September, October, November, March and April. Dues are $10 per year for educators, and $6 for a non-educator spouse or partner.
Reservations can be made by mailing checks made out to AREA to Gina Fuller, 36 Elliott Ave., Lewiston, ME, 04240.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
