LISBON — State police said Monday that Benjamin Peterson, 38, of Pittston succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday night after allegedly murdering his former girlfriend earlier in the day on Main Street.
Peterson had been transported to Central Maine Medical Center after Lisbon firefighters witnessed the man exiting a vehicle on Main Street and shooting himself in the head. The first responders were drawn to the area around 7 a.m. Friday by a woman’s scream; they found Kylee Turcotte, 30, dead in the driver’s seat of Peterson’s car.
Turcotte’s body was transported to the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta where an autopsy determined her death a homicide.
Peterson succumbed to his injury at 10:22 p.m. Friday, Maine Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Monday.
The case remains under investigation, Moss said.
