Alfred Clement Dostie
ROWLETT, Texas – Alfred Clement Dostie passed unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, at 75. He was born in Augusta in 1947, the son of Victoire and Alfred Dostie. Al was a loving husband, father, pepere, brother, uncle, godfather, and friend.
He graduated from Cony High School and earned a B.A. in business administration at Colby. He married Bridget Fortin in 1972, in Waterville. Soon after, they moved to Burlington, Vt. and welcomed three children.
Al was raised by his mother, elder siblings, and the kinship of the Franco-American coterie on Sand Hill, who instilled in him a profound appreciation for family and community.
Al devoted himself to providing an idyllic family experience for his children. Al encouraged neighborhood children to embrace their imaginations, providing guidance for the construction of ramshackle tree houses and backyard ice rinks. Inspired by the film The Goonies, Al led novice explorers on expeditions in search of hidden caves and lost pirate treasure.
His enthusiasm for sports led him to an association with Colchester baseball. He volunteered countless hours coaching and maintaining ball fields. In 1990 he skippered the Colchester Prep League All Stars to the Vermont State Championship.
Al began his career with the F.D.I.C. His career continued for many years including stints at Burlington Savings, Chittenden, and Merchants Banks as an auditor, and chief loans review officer. After three decades in Vermont, he set forth overseas to pursue new adventures. This led to trips to Russia, Bosnia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Al believed in democracy and saw the expansion of commercial and cultural exchange as a pathway to peace. It was in Tashkent that Al met Feruza, who he wed in a ceremony in 2003.
Feruza and Al returned to America and settled in Augusta, where he founded Maximis Consulting, forging contracts with various financial institutions until relocating to Texas. He completed his career where it began, at the F.D.I.C.
Al loved music, ballet, art, traveling, hiking, dancing and eating. Al was gregarious, full of energy, joy, and humor. He took great pleasure in the fierce competition at family “Risk Tournaments” during which he often regaled his company with sonorous renditions of Quebecois songs of yore.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Feruza, his former wife, Bridget; his children, Alexander and wife Tracey Girdich; Jeremy and wife Linda and their children Grace and Charlotte; Mikaela and her children Safiya and Ayelevi. He leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, colleagues, and friends who will miss his laughter, songs, and stories.
