Edna Lois Marshall

SKOWHEGAN – Our mother, Edna Lois Marshall, passed peacefully on Oct. 10, 2023, at Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan. She was born on Dec. 2, 1927, the daughter of Russell and Josephine (Spencer) Bosworth, and lived her entire life in Skowhegan. She was educated in Skowhegan schools and was a member of the class of 1945.

In 1947 she married Richard Marshall. They became the parents of three wonderful children, Pamela, Richard Jr., and Jayne. They spent many joyful weekends together at their camp on Kingsbury Pond. Later in life she and Richard enjoyed camping at Brassua Lake.

Early in her marriage Edna worked at Norrwock Shoe Company. She then worked in retail, first at W. T. Grant from 1958 to 1972. She then managed a small dress shop downtown called Debbie’s Fashions. She changed careers again in 1976, when she went to work at Redington Fairview Hospital, retiring in 1992. She was a very active member of the RFGH Auxiliary.

Edna remained very busy after retirement. She worked as a volunteer at RFGH, contributing to their Christmas craft fair every year. Edna was well-known for her many crafts and hobbies. She was a talented artist. She taught Tole painting and scrapbooking to many of her friends. She also enjoyed many bus trips to Boston and New York City for plays and musical performances. The highlight of her travels was a trip to Italy in 2006 with her church family, visiting Assisi, Florence, Siena, Tuscany, Rome, and The Vatican.

Edna loved to dance, and she belonged to a group of senior tap-dancers, known as The Skowhegan Showstoppers. The group performed for various organizations and at nursing homes. She was a communicant at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, serving as a greeter and hostess for coffee after mass. Edna had many friends and especially enjoyed the Monday Morning Faith Sharing Group, and Associates of the Sisters of the Assumption.

Edna enjoyed being a member of the Bloomfield Garden Club, and volunteering at the Skowhegan History House and Museum. Her many friends will remember her for her quick wit and perpetual smile. While still living at her home she enjoyed starting each day with a friendly check-in-call to the Somerset Communication Center, letting them know she was up and about and just fine. She knew most of the responders there by name, and they enjoyed hearing from her.

Edna was predeceased by her parents; her brother Cecil Bosworth; husband Richard; and son Richard Jr.

She is survived by her daughters Pamela McDermott (David) and Jayne Fortier (Mark); granddaughter Marylena Chaisson (Jeff), grandson Lucas Fortier and his wife Keltie Vance; and great granddaughters Clara and Vivian Chaisson. She is also survived by her cousins Norma Dean, Ronnie Bosworth, and Nancy Bosworth, and two sisters-in-law Virginia Pooler and Lorraine Steeves; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Edna’s daughters want to thank her wonderful neighbors Mel and Deb Burnham, June and Jeannie Conley, Arlene Demo, Marie Fortin, Annette Lepkowski, and Tony and Mary Ellen Travers. Edna loved you all. They also want to thank the caring staff at Cedar Ridge and Beacon Hospice.

At her request there will be no services. Burial will be at the Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan.
