As I read of the anti-Semitic slur reportedly found at Cony High School recently, I cannot help but to comment:
Where were you the school officials when all the anti-Semitic slurs were sprayed and painted in the Old Building of Cony while I was employed as a teacher?
When someone painted “Let’s kill all the Jews” outside the music room, our custodian was simply instructed to paint over it. When all of the Daniel Cony pieces were covered with red swastikas, they, too, were simply removed. When I asked the administration to please discuss these incidents with staff, my request was dismissed.
This was well over 20 years ago and now we are all reaping the fruits of that decision.
Augusta officials have yet to publicly address the plethora of anti-Semitic displays from this summer at the dog park. The mayor has yet to respond to my letter asking him what actions he planned to take to help resolve this deep-rooted hatred.
Please take this opportunity to educate our children. This is really our only hope for the future.
