CLINTON — A Clinton man was arrested Friday and charged with gross sexual assault of a minor under 12 after being indicted by a grand jury earlier this week, according to police.
Christopher Connors, 37, had been the subject of an investigation by the Clinton Police Department over the last several months, according to a news release posted Friday on social media by that department. An arrest warrant for Connors on charges of gross sexual assault of a minor, Class A, was issued Thursday, according to the news release.
At about 3:16 p.m. Friday, Clinton police, in collaboration with Fairfield police, arrived at Connors’ home to arrest him. Connors initially refused to answer the door, but eventually came out and was taken into custody without incident according to the news release. He was taken to Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta where his bail was set at $100,000.
The investigation was led by Clinton police Sgt. Roger Smith, with support from Waterville and Fairfield police and the Maine State Crime Lab, according to the post, which said no further information will be released at this time.
“It is important to emphasize that all suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” the post says.
