Kelly M. (McGaughey) Roseberry

READFIELD – It is with great sadness that the family of Kelly M. (McGaughey) Roseberry, PT, DPT, 38, of Readfield, ME shares the passing of Kelly and her son, Noah Ryan Roseberry on Oct. 28, 2023.

Kelly touched countless lives with her bright and infectious personality and her gracious way of loving and giving back to everyone around her. Her family, friends and extensive community will forever be touched by her warmth and kind spirit that lives on through her memory.

Kelly was born on March 18, 1985, to James and Kathryn McGaughey in Fort Lewis, Wash. Moving nine times in 14 years across the United States and Germany with a military family was foundational in Kelly’s gratitude and appreciation for service and sacrifice. She graduated from Woodbridge Senior High School in 2003 and graduated with a degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2007. Kelly went on to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University in 2010.

Kelly’s physical therapy internships included serving two months at the Quantico Officers Candidate School, three and a half months at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany followed by the same amount of time at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Landstuhl was the relay point for injured service members on their way back home, resulting in Kelly treating patients within 24 hours of their often life-changing injuries.

After graduation, Kelly began to make an immeasurable impact spending seven years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), and later at the Walter Reed National Medical Center as a physical therapist and the Military Advanced Training Center coordinator of clinical education. It was through this work that Kelly made a life out of helping others, she often said it was incredibly gratifying to be part of a team as an Amputee Specialist that taught people how to walk or even run again, to show them that they could still ride a bike, snowboard or pick up their child.

In 2015, Kelly met Chris Roseberry at Walter Reed National Medical Center and they went on to marry in 2017. Kelly was a devoted and loving mother to their beautiful daughter Emma Grace. Their second child, Noah Ryan passed on to heaven with Kelly.

Kelly joined the Travis Mills Foundation as programs director in 2017, becoming Vice President for Programs where she continued to have an incredible impact on countless lives while bringing warriors and their families closer. Her personal and professional experiences, along with her participation in a number of veteran-centered nonprofits and adapted sports, helped her grow the Travis Mills Foundation. Her husband Chris, retired from the United States Army as a First Sergeant after serving 21 years. Chris is now the Facilities Director at the Travis Mills Foundation Veterans Retreat.

Kelly also served as an adjunct faculty member at Shenandoah University, the University of New England and the University of Southern Maine for both physical therapy and occupational therapy programs. She volunteered as a PT/Amputee Specialist at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Kelly also enjoyed volunteering as an Adaptive Ski instructor, and the Director of an annual Ski Camp for Amputee Kids. She loved skiing, exploring Maine with her family and watching Virginia Tech Football.

Kelly is survived by her husband Chris, their daughter Emma, and their dogs. She will be dearly missed by her parents James and Kathryn McGaughey of Woodbridge Va.; her sister Cara West, husband Mike, son Hunter and daughter Ava from Essex Junction, Vt.; and her sister Stacey and fiancé Brad Myers from Richmond, Va. She will also be greatly missed by Chris’ parents, Scott and Melody Mack of Lincoln, Ill. and brother Ryan Roseberry and family of Stuttgart, Germany, and Scotty Mack and family of Lincoln, Ill. Kelly’s memory is carried on by her extended family including Aunt Patricia McGaughey and family, Uncles Douglas, Jeff, and Phillip McGaughey and their families. Aunt Linda Thomas and family, and Uncle Tom Malizia and family, as well as Great Aunt Irene Matkovitch and numerous cousins and their families in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
