The Winthrop Historical Society plans to raffle off a handmade, patriotic hooked rug for Veterans Day. The rug is approximately 2-feet by 3-feet.

Proceeds will be used to purchase wreaths to be placed at cemeteries in Winthrop and also will benefit the society and its mission to preserve the history of Winthrop.
The wreaths will be placed in Winthrop with the help of Alfred W. Maxwell Jr. American Legion Post 40. Each veteran’s name will be spoken aloud and individually thanked for their service and sacrifice, as the wreaths are placed in cemeteries around Winthrop.
The drawing will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center on 107 Main St.
Tickets cost $10 each or $25 for three.
Tickets are available at the Winthrop History and Heritage Center. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays until Christmas.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
