Timothy Lee McLaughlin
AUGUSTA – It is with heavy hearts that the family of Timothy Lee McLaughlin announce his unexpected passing on Oct. 31, 2023, at the age of 53. More affectionately known as “Timmy”, he was the son of Deborah Maillet and was predeceased by his stepfather, James Maillet. Born Dec. 5, 1969, in Augusta, he grew up in South Gardiner and graduated from Gardiner Area High School in 1988.
Timmy was a lifelong sports fan, playing high school football for the Gardiner Tigers before playing in flag football and softball leagues after graduating. You’d be more likely to find him in a Red Sox hat than without one and he maintained a stubborn love for the Dallas Cowboys throughout his life, in direct opposition to his younger brother Kevin’s love for the 49ers. He rarely missed a UFC card and later in life became an avid disc golf player. He took great enjoyment in coaching each of his children in their respective youth sports. Anyone who knew Timmy would be familiar with the sight of him with his nose in whatever book or newspaper he could get his hands on. There wasn’t a project he didn’t think he could handle, jumping at any chance to create something useful for his kids. Tim’s green thumb was well known to those who knew him best. Professionally, Timmy spent most of his adult life in fence installation. This career was first introduced to him by Dick Towle, who played an important role in Timmy’s life as a cherished friend and mentor.
Beyond these activities, his biggest loves in life were his friends and family. The quickest way to get a smile on his face was to share an old memory or get him talking about his kids or his new grandchildren. He’d do anything he could for anyone, never hesitating to put the needs of others above his own. He always saw the best in people and was quick to make a friend anywhere he went.
Tim is survived by his mother Deborah; his son, Marshall and his partner Michelle, his daughters Audrey and her partner, Dalton, Abigail and her partner, Logan; and his grandchildren, Mark and Callum. He is also survived by his brother Kevin; his nephew, Jake; his ex-wife, Jane; half-brothers Clint and Gabe Gould, stepsisters Jackie Gosselin (Maillet) and Jenna McLaughlin (Maillet), stepbrother, Chad Maillet; and many cousins and friends. He will be sorely missed by his “cat-dog” Little who he affectionately called “Goober.”
Tim was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Alberta and Francis McLaughlin; his aunt, Eileen Lovely, his uncles Frank McLaughlin and Rick Lovely; and his cousin, Randy Lovely.
