Richard Loren Patterson

AUGUSTA – Richard Loren Patterson, 85, of Augusta, passed away on Nov. 16, 2023. He was born on Aug. 16, 1938. Richard, also known as Dick, was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, colleague, and friend. He had a deep love for his family and cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dick touched the lives of many people throughout his life and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his brother David S. Patterson, his sons Robert S. Patterson and wife Faye, Keith A Patterson and wife Tania, stepson David Schermerhorn and wife Barbara, stepdaughter Donna Shaw and husband Dave, stepdaughters Eleanor Randall and Carolyn Lemieux, 12 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Saunders and Louise Patterson, sister Linda MacFarland, daughter Karen Joy Patterson, son Richard L Patterson Jr, and grandson Tyler Patterson.
Richard attended Cony High School and later served in the Air Force. After his military service, he pursued a career as a licensed Boiler engineer, working for Lipman Poultry, Statler Tissue, and Tree Free. He was a dedicated and skilled professional.
In his free time, Richard was a member of the “Slick Shifters” during high school and enjoyed auto repair, participating in car clubs and car shows. He was also a huge NASCAR fan and had a passion for woodworking.
A service to honor Richard’s life will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
