Mary Martha Moody

WINTHROP – Mary Martha Moody, 72, died at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023 after a short illness. She was born in Augusta on Jan. 31, 1951, the daughter of Edward and Tessie (Humes) Roberts.

Mary was a Winthrop High School graduate in the class of 1968. Soon after, her dream of being a hairdresser became a reality upon her completion of cosmetology school. She was then able to join her mother at Tessie’s Hair Salon, which she eventually came to own. Cutting and styling hair was Mary’s passion, along with the relationships she formed with her many loyal customers over the years, who were either family or became just like family to her.

Mary loved everything Irish, so it should come as no surprise that her favorite day to celebrate was St. Patrick’s Day. Her adventurous spirit soared beyond the salon, where she would often indulge in the thrill of fast drives and the joy of lively gatherings.

She cherished her family immensely, finding pure happiness in the laughter and love of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Over the years, Mary hardly ever missed a game or sporting event when her grandchildren were participants. It meant the world to her to enjoy as many moments of them growing up as she possibly could. She will be dearly missed and always remembered for her vibrant soul and her zest for life which knew no bounds.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Leo, with whom she shared a lengthy journey of 54 years; her two sons, Leo Moody Jr. and Skip Moody, both of Winthrop; her daughter, Mandy Poulin and husband Dana of Readfield; her two sisters, Terry Wilson and husband David of Gardiner and Donna Webster of Texas; as well as the loves of her life, her grandchildren Maura, Danny, Tessie, Samantha, Dana and Charlie and her great grandchildren Wyatt, Myla Martha and Cal.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit Saturday, Jan. 13 from 1 – 3 p.m. and 5 – 7 p.m. at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin Street, Winthrop, where memories, condolences and photos may be shared with the family at http://www.khrfuneralhomes.com
