HALLOWELL – Phyllis Renfro, born Nov. 26, 1946, to Helen and Heber Tarter in Somerset, Kentucky, died Dec, 30, 2023 in Hallowell, Maine.

Phyllis spent her formative years in Winter Haven and Gainesville, Fla and Jackson, Mississippi. She studied journalism at “The W” in Columbus, Mississippi and spent her early professional career in public relations and journalism but found her calling in education. She raised her family in Houston, Texas and Sewickley, Pa. She was a parishioner, usher, and Altar Guild member at Christ Church Cathedral Houston for over 30 years. 20 years ago, she fell in love with Maine, making regular visits and relocating to the state in 2022 where she found another welcoming church community at Christ Church on the Common in Gardiner. She made friends everywhere she went.

Mrs. Renfro was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Renfro. She is survived by her daughter, Courtney Renfro, son, Cooper Renfro, daughter-in-law, Victoria Renfro; grandsons, Alistair and Elliot; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services followed by a reception will be held at Christ Church on the Common in Gardiner at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held in Houston at Christ Church Cathedral on Friday, April 12 at noon.
