Jacqui Cowperthwaite
HALLOWELL – We are saddened to announce the death of our mother Jacqui Cowperthwaite (Jacqueline Ann Cadarett), who passed in the early hours of the first day of the year. Jacqui was 92 and had an amazing life. She was born in New York City to Hector Cadarett and Gwen Lomas.
Soon after the family moved to Readfield, where she attended grammar school, later graduating from Kents Hill School in 1948. She went on to attend business college in Augusta and was later highly regarded for her skills at typing and shorthand.
She married Gerald Cowperthwaite, of Readfield, whom she met as a teen. They soon left the states for France, as Gerald was in the Army. After service overseas, they moved to the Boston area and started their family.
Jacqui was a homemaker and an executive secretary. They raised their family in Lexington, Mass., and spent their summers in Gloucester and later Kennebunkport. At this time, she pursued her interest in music and attended the Boston Conservatory of Music for a year. Jacqui went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in English and Communications in 1989 from Regis College.
Widowed in 1992, Jacqui split her time between Florida, Massachusetts and Maine. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, bridge, friends and family. In 2016 she returned to Readfield, where her heart was. Most recently, she lived in a cottage at Granite Hill Estates, where she remained independent and made many friends.
