Carl L. Knox

AUGUSTA – Carl L. Knox, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024 at his home following a long illness.

He was born in Gardiner on Nov. 16, 1937, a son of the late Louis P. and Hilda E. (Lancaster) Knox. Mr. Knox attended Gardiner schools and was a communicant of St. Michael Parish.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. Mr. Knox had been employed for over 37 years at the Veterans Hospital at Togus. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

Mr. Knox was predeceased by a son, Randall L. Knox; and a brother, Earl L. Knox.

He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Laurette G. (Grondin) Knox of Augusta; a daughter, Carla A. McPherson of Augusta, a son, David W. Knox of Augusta; a brother, Ronald Knox and his wife Helen of Sarasota, Fla., three sisters, Donna J. Ellis of Elizabeth City, N.C., Leatrice Berry of Brunswick and Suzanne Shores of Benton; seven grandchildren, Tony and Christopher McPherson and Keenan, Collin, Logan, Kyle and Shelby Knox; two great-grandchildren, Jackson McPherson and Lincoln Knox, a step-great-grandchild, Lacey Lucas; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank MaineGeneral Hospice, especially Jenna, Andrea and Jake, for the care and compassion they showed to Carl and the family during his time with them.

There will be no public visiting hours. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gardiner. Burial and committal prayers with military honors will follow in the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
