Ramona A. “Mona” McLaughlin

EMBDEN – Ramona A. “Mona” McLaughlin, passed away peacefully on Monday Feb. 5, 2024 at age 77 surrounded by loved ones.

Mona was born on July 15, 1946 , the daughter of Burton and Frances Savage. She grew up in North Anson and graduated from Anson Academy in 1964.

Mona met her high school sweetheart at a dance at the local grange hall. On July 16th, 1965 they got married and resided in North Anson where they created a home and raised a beautiful family.

Directly out of high school, Mona took her first job at Norwock Shoe where she worked in the office. Mona then went on to work at TDS Telecom as a switchboard operator and trouble dispatcher. Mona retired from TDS in 2000 after 30 years. During her career at TDS Mona had an amazing work family and the friendships she built there were near and dear to her heart.

In 1989 Mona and Wayne moved to Embden, which became their forever home. Mona took pride in the Embden community and after retirement became the town tax collector for six years. During this time, Mona worked with Wayne and others to develop the Embden Community Center and Thrift shop and continued to support it over the years.

Mona enjoyed camping with family and friends, knitting, snuggles with her dog Brandi and quiet evenings at home watching country music shows and Red Sox games with Wayne and her nephew Steven.

Mona was predeceased by her parents Burton and Frances Savage, brothers Craig Savage, Terry Savage, sisters Rhonda Clukey and Donna Baker and niece Janelle Savage.

Mona will be greatly missed by her devoted husband of 58 years Wayne; son Terry Mclaughlin and wife Eva of Skowhegan, son Jerry McLaughlin and wife Kelly of Madison, daughter Cindy Russell and husband Chris of Caratunk; brother Brent Savage and wife Debbie of North Anson; grandaughters Courtney Stewart, Tori Hisler, Isabelle McLaughlin and Audrey McLaughlin, Sarah Mercier, grandsons Matthew McLaughlin, Jeffrey Mercier, and Scott Mercier. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the staff of Cedar Ridge Nursing home who treated Mona like family.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the cemetery in East New Portland, Maine. Details will be announced at a later time.
