Free Fishing Weekend is set for Saturday to Sunday.
During the weekend, any person (except those whose license has been suspended or revoked) may fish without a license. All other laws and regulations apply on these days, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
Each month fisheries biologists across Maine put together a list of recommended waters, how to access them, and fishing tips.
Below is a partial listing of area ice fishing derbies planned through the weekend:
• St. Michael’s School’s event will take place Saturday on Messalonskee Lake, weigh-in will is planned at Snow Pond Center for the Arts from 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cash prizes range from $75-$1,200.

• Wilton Fish & Game’s derby is planned for Saturday on Wilson Pond in Wilton with a weigh-in and registration shack at boat launch.

• Hartland Volunteer Fire Department will host its annual ice fishing derby Saturday and Sunday on Moose Pond and Morrill Pond, both in Hartland, and Indian Pond in St Albans. Weigh-in: HVFD 43 Canaan Road, Hartland from 4-6 p.m. both days.

• The Freedom Recreational Committee has planned an ice fishing derby on Saturday on Sandy Pond in Freedom. Weigh-in will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Freedom Town Office, 71 Pleasant St., Freedom.

• The Lloyd E. Moore Memorial Fishing Derby is set for Saturday on Pleasant Lake in Stetson. Weigh-in is planned at 21 Pine Loop Road in Stetson.

• Riley’s Wish Memorial Scholarship Fund Ice Fishing Derby will take place Saturday on Lake St. George in Liberty. Weigh-in at Lake St. George Brewing Complay, 4 Marshall Shore Road in Liberty.

• Lee St. Hilaire Scholarship Fund Ice Fishing Derby is planned for Saturday on Maranacook Lake in Winthrop. Weigh-in: American Legion Post 40, 117 Bowdoin St. in Winthrop.

• Aurora Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Derby will take place Saturday and Sunday on Mcdougal Pond in Caratunk. Weigh-in will take place on site.

• China Four Seasons will sponsor an ice fishing derby Sunday on China Lake. The weigh-in station will be located at the China Village Fire Department on Causeway Road in China Village. Entries must be in line at the Fire Department building by 4 p.m.
• The 26th Annual Gene and Lucille Letourneau Ice Fishing Derby is set for Sunday on any body of water in the state. Weigh-in is set for 205 p.m. at Spectrum Generations Muskie Community Center, 38 Gold St. in Waterville.

• The Lake George Corporation event is planned for Sunday on Lake George in Skowhegan and Canaan. Weigh-in will take place at the State Boat Launch on Lake George, Canaan side.
