I believe Maine state legislators should vote yes on L.D. 780, A Resolution, Proposing an Amendment to the Constitution of Maine to Protect Personal Reproductive Autonomy, and give their constituents the choice to vote on this amendment.
In our early years of marriage, we chose to have two children. But two children 13 months apart was all we knew we could provide for. Thus, we chose minimally invasive surgery to prevent further childbirth (vasectomy).
Years later we volunteered and taught Lamaze — giving back for the education and support we received. Families were choosing early childbirth education and “natural childbirth.”
I offered support and understanding to women who, under the care of a physician, chose to end pregnancies for personal health-related reasons.
As a registered nurse, I chose to care for patients who were in the last months of their lives. Terminally diagnosed people and their families can choose hospice to support their needs to provide care and comfort in their homes.
The examples of choice that I share with you center on health care choices that women and their families can make with the support, care, and guidance of their medical team.
Legislators have a responsibility to their citizens. Voters have the right to decide for themselves. L.D. 780 supports choice and protects personal reproductive freedom.
