Paul R. Bonenfant Sr.

AUGUSTA – Paul R. Bonenfant Sr. 86, passed away after a long illness on Feb. 14, 2024 at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Augusta.

Paul was born on May 10, 1937, a son of Laurier and Beatrice (Charest) Bonenfant. Growing up on a farm, Paul learned the value of hard work at a young age. Following school, he was employed by the City of Augusta, Statler Tissue, and Maine Veteran’s Cemetery before starting his own construction business, Bonenfant Construction Corp. For 47 years, he owned and operated the company and built many great relationships with the people of the greater Augusta community.

On March 1, 1958, he married Alice V. Beaulieu and the two settled in Augusta where they raised their family. As a young man, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served during the Vietnam War. Over the years, Paul owned many racehorses, many of which were very successful. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, cheering on his New England sports teams, and spending winters in Pompano Beach, Fla.

Paul will be remembered as a generous and hard working man.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his siblings Roger Bonenfant, and Lea Dumas.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Alice Bonenfant; his children, Diane Arnold and her husband, Brian, Patricia Bonenfant and her partner David Berube, Paul Bonenfant Jr. and his partner, Carla Stevens, and Michael Bonenfant and his partner Stacie Gallant; grandchildren, Brandon Arnold, David Beland and his fiancee Emily Coulombe, Brianna Merrill and her husband Thomas, Kyle Bonenfant, Alisa Bonenfant, Brooke Bonenfant, and Mitchell Bonenfant; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kilian, Hadley, Olivia, and Adalee; sister, Lorraine Ferland, sister-in-law, Bernadette Bonenfant, and brother-in-law, Francis Dumas Jr.
