John Max Kirschner Sr.

AUGUSTA – John Max Kirschner, Sr. died Friday, Feb. 16, 2024, at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. John was born in Augusta on Feb. 18, 1934 to parents Josef and Eileen Kirschner. Educated in Augusta schools, he attended Saint Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from Cony High School in 1952.

John married Betty Risser and they lived in Augusta where they raised their family. They spent family time at a camp on Cobbosee Lake and in the Sugarloaf Mountain area where they had a cabin and later a condo at the mountain. In 1994 they moved to Lincolnville and spent time out on the ocean in their boat with family and friends. John and Betty also enjoyed time together in Hawaii.

Betty died of cancer on Nov. 10, 2008.

John moved back to Augusta, residing in a home at Granite Hill Estates.

John was predeceased by his parents; his older brother Vincent, older sister Betty, and his younger sister Joan. He is survived by his sister Josephine; son John M. Kirschner and his wife Catherine S. Kirschner, daughter Ann M.Murphy and her husband Kevin S. Murphy, daughter Kathryn K. Brown and her husband Charles E. Brown; grandchildren Jennifer Murphy Meredith and her husband Jesse Meredith, Jaimie Kirschner, Alison Muzzy and her husband John Muzzy, Jason Murphy and his wife Melia Murphy, Makayla Brown and her husband Ben Roy, Nicky Carolin and her husband Colby Carolin, Mary Margaret Kirschner; and great grandchildren Waylon John Meredith and Beau Muzzy.

The family will have a private celebration of life.
