Denis grew up in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School. Following school, he worked at Edwards Paper Mill, as well as plowing for the State of Maine. For the majority of his life he was employed at Associated Grocers in Gardiner. In his retirement, Denis kept busy making floral deliveries with his longtime friend at Hopkins Flowers. He was proud of his ancestry and was an active member of Le Club Calumet.
Denis’ biggest passion in life was vintage and antique cars and was a founder of the AMC Maineiac’s. A smart and mechanically inclined man, he enjoyed both tinkering on vehicles and driving them. In his early years, he was proud to have built a 1931 Chrysler and later in life built a 1970 AMC Rebel Machine. He kept both vehicles running and in amazing condition to this day. He loved attending car shows, cruising, and gathering with his friends.
Denis will be remembered as a fun-loving, kind and patient person who was a friend to all; the epitome of a good soul. He was known for his knowledge of historical places and events, and knowing most of the roads in Maine.
Denis was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, David Patenaude.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Gail Patenaude; his daughters, Echo Faucher and her husband Troy, and Dr. Cassandra Patenaude; grandchildren, Michael and Aiden Faucher; sisters, Dorothy Butler and Elizabeth Patenaude, brothers, Dominic Patenaude and his wife Suzanne, Thomas Patenaude and his wife Elise, Todd Patenaude and his wife Johanne, and George Patenaude and his wife Louise; and many nieces and nephews.
