Kennebec Land Trust stewardship staff plan to hold an off-trail excursion at the North Acres Wildlife Conservation Area in Manchester at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2.
The group will explore the farm fields, surrounding woodlands and along the shores of the Tanning and Bond Brooks.
Participants should dress appropriately for an off-trail winter hike in the woods, and bring water and snacks. They should plan on bringing snowshoes, skis, and/or ice grippers, depending on conditions, and should be comfortable traveling off-trail in winter conditions. This may include uneven terrain and moving over or around down trees and branches.
Directions: From U.S. Route 202 in Manchester, turn north on Puddledock Road. Continue for approximately two miles to Prescott Road and turn left. Continue 0.4 miles to Lyons Road and turn right and continue 0.4 miles to the gate on Old Wade Road (known more recently as the Whit-Lee Road). Park along the shoulder of Lyons Road.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
