Fred J. Searcy Jr.
CHARLOTTE, NC – It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Fred Searcy. Fred was born in Augusta, Maine, Sept. 16, 1958, to Fred Sr. and Marjorie Adams Searcy.
Fred graduated from Cony High School in Augusta, class of 1976, having been a standout letterman lineman on the football team for four years, as well as a shot putter on the track and field squad. After high school, Fred attended A&T State University in Greensboro, NC, establishing his “Aggie Pride,” and making North Carolina his adopted state. Over the years, Fred moved between Maine, Florida, and North Carolina, ultimately finding his groove in the culinary arts, and coaching youth sports, excelling at both, and bringing joy wherever he worked/coached.
Fred had a loving, larger than life personality that endeared him to so many wherever he went throughout his life. This was testified to by the staggering number of people who visited his bedside.
He is survived by his daughter Maggie Searcy; brother Andrew Searcy, sister-in-law Cassandra Searcy; nieces, Sarah Smith, Marjorie Searcy, nephews, Christian Searcy, Aubrey Searcy; beloved maternal aunt, Lorraine Gail; and first cousins Karen Adams, and Aubrey Gail, Wes Gail, and Colby Gail; as well as cherished friends the Jeff Keezer family, and Rick Leighton, not to mention a myriad of loving friends, family, co-workers, and student athletes.
Fred loved Maggie; he loved life, people, sports, and cooking. Few could do it the way Fred did it, whatever it was, with flair and that amazing smile.
We love, and miss you sorely dad, brother, uncle, friend and coach!
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 13501 S. Tryon St. Charlotte, NC 28278
