Barbara Jean Lanphier

WEST GARDINER – Barbara Jean Lanphier, born on April 1, 1939 in Gardiner, passed away on Feb. 25, 2024.

Barbara was a compassionate and dedicated woman whose love for her family and community was evident in all she did. She was a beacon of light in West Gardiner, where she made her home. Her thoughtful nature and unwavering dedication to her loved ones were among her most admirable traits. Barbara’s heart was as beautiful as the flowers she so lovingly tended in her garden, a hobby she treasured.

Barbara was a committed figure, whose dedication was mirrored in her long-standing career at the DMV – State of Maine. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her love for her family, which was always her utmost priority. Barbara found joy in the simplest pleasures of life: gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her loved ones. She enjoyed watching football with her grandson Matt, an avid attendee of the Cohen Center, for luncheons with her friends. She was a faithful member of the Christ Episcopal Church. Her thoughtful nature and loving spirit were vividly reflected in her hobbies.

Barbara is survived by her sons Steven Gaboury and companion Shelly, Gary Gaboury, Joe Glidden and companion Cindy, Rusty Glidden and wife Amy; eight grandchildren, Angela, Katy, Heath, Curt, Ashley, Sasha, Samantha, and Matthew; four great-grandchildren, Zoey, Aubree, Lebry, and Najayla; five sisters, Donna, Phyllis, Linda, Diane, and Pam; and special niece, Lorna.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Mansir, mother, Dorothy (Dow) Mansir; spouse, Robert Lanphier; and daughter, Susan Gaboury; and two siblings, Shirley and Dick.

Each life she touched will miss her deeply. As we bid her farewell, let’s remember her with smiling faces and hearts full of gratitude for having had her in our lives.

A spring graveside service will be held on Monday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at the East Winthrop Cemetery, Turtle Rd., East Winthrop.

Arrangements are entrusted with Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website, http://www.staplesfuneralhome.com
