Josephine “Jo” Patnaude
AUGUSTA – Our family is sad to announce that on Feb. 29, 2024, we lost the matriarch of our family, Josephine “Jo” Patnaude at the age of 87, with her family by her side.
Fondly known as “Jo”, she was a beloved mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to so many.
Mom was born on April 9, 1936, in St. Albans, Vt. to Florence Sweeney and Harvey Mathieu. She was later adopted by Josie and Archie Herson of Highgate Center, Vt. She attended schools in Highgate and later proudly earned her GED in Augusta.
Mom met our dad, Robert K. Patnaude, in St. Albans, Vt. while dad was in the military. They were married on Sept. 18, 1954, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Highgate Center. After dad was discharged from the military, they moved to Maine where they started a family and lived a wonderful life together for fifty-nine years until dad passed away on August 14, 2013.
Mom was not only a wonderful homemaker, but she also worked at many places and left a lasting impression at each one; Hazard Shoe, Augusta Convalescent Center, Ernest Morrisette Insurance, and the Flower Cart. In addition, she was a communicant of St. Michael’s Parish.
Mom enjoyed sewing, her gardens, and keeping an immaculate home. Most of all, she was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family and nurturing them with her unconditional love.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, her adopted mother, her brother, Norm Sweeney, and her loving husband, Bob.
She is survived by her sons, Robert J. Patnaude and his wife Muriel, David Patnaude and his wife Diane; and her daughter, Lisa Morin.
She is also survived by five grandchildren, Melissa Curll and her husband Ben, Ashley Patnaude, Danielle Patnaude, Derek Patnaude and his wife Lizz, and Amy Morin. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Ackerman, Jacob Ackerman, Haley LaPlante, and Stephanie Emerson.
Mom’s sudden passing has left a huge void in our lives. Her love and memories will live on for many years.
We would like to convey our special thanks and our highest admiration to the State of Maine and the City of Augusta dispatch centers, Augusta Fire/Rescue, the Augusta Police Department and to the emergency room staff at Maine General Medical Center, especially Dr. Brooks and Nurse Carley. The care and comfort provided to our mom and our family by these responders and caregivers will never be forgotten.
A period of visitation will be held on Friday, March 8 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME 04330 where a memorial service will begin at 9 a.m. Following the service, a committal ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. at the Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta, ME 04330 where she will be interned with our Dad.
