The Waterville Public Library is launching the 2024 Waterville Seed Library. This free public resource features 30 varieties, including tomato, pumpkin, summer lettuce mix and green beans.
Beginning Saturday, March 16, while supplies last, garden seed packets can be picked up at the 73 Elm St. library. A free Paint a Plant Pot and Plant Basil craft program for youth will be offered from 1:30-2:30 p.m., according to a news release from the library.
The seed library provides community members with the resources to grow healthy, sustainable food at no cost. It helps to reclaim seeds as a public resource and fosters a culture where local growing knowledge is easily shared.
The seed library is made possible through a partnership with the Colby Office of Civic Engagement, Waterville Public Library, FEDCO Seeds, and Johnny’s Selected Seeds. Project funding and support was provided by the Colby Office of Civic Engagement and the Ohanian-Szostak Fellows for Civic Leadership.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
