The Honorable Joseph Jabar, Sr. recently joined the law firm Jabar LaLiberty after serving 14 years as a Justice on the Maine Supreme Court. This is the same law firm that Jabar founded in 1979.

Before founding the firm, Jabar served as district attorney for Kennebec and Somerset counties, and he served as chairman of the Governor’s Clemency Board. Jabar also was an active member of the Waterville community, having served 10 years on the Waterville school board, and 10 years on the Alfond Youth Center board of directors, including two as its president. He also enjoyed coaching local youth sports teams for many years.

Prior to becoming a Judge, Jabar also served as a representative in the Maine Legislature. Jabar was first appointed to the superior court by Gov. Angus King in 2001, and Gov. John Baldacci appointed him to the Maine Supreme Court in 2010.

After more than 20 years as a judge the firm is thrilled to have him back, and Jabar is eager for the opportunity to once again help Mainers with challenging legal problems.

“I am coming full circle and finishing my career where I started. I am excited to work with my son Jason and my nephew George, as well as Jim LaLiberty and his son James. I also look forward to being part of the Waterville community where I can represent people who have been hurt or wronged to make sure they are receiving fair justice. This is something I missed while serving as a judge.”

When he left the firm to become a judge, Jabar’s son Jason had just joined the firm as a new lawyer. Now, 23 years later, the two will be working together with a focus on helping people who have been impacted by serious injuries and wrongful death. Jabar LaLiberty has offices in Waterville and Portland; Jabar lives in Waterville with his wife of 56 years, Renee. Jabar’s other son, Joseph Jr., is a financial advisor in Waterville.
