Lincoln County Historical Association’s annual summer programming includes three week-long camps for children and teens.
This year’s theme is “Summer with the Past — Stepping Back: Discovering Skills and Pastimes of the 18th & 19th Centuries.” Each week offers hands-on history during which participants are introduced to various trades of the period and the skills needed to practice each one.
During the week of June 24-28, a program for ages 7-11 will investigate the practice of bartering. The program, held at the Chapman-Hall House, 270 Main St. in Damariscotta, runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Each day’s project will be complemented by colonial pastimes like games.
History and traditional trades come together again at the Chapman-Hall House during the week of July 22 -26. This week’s projects, for ages 12-15, will include 18th and 19th century skills. Participants will learn about broom making, floor cloth design work, basket making and more. Each day’s schedule runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
During the week of August 5-9, a program for ages 7-11 takes place in Wiscasset, a prominent shipping port in the 19th century. The activities will revolve around the merchants and tradespeople, the Old Jail and early train travel. The camp will be held at the 1811 Old Lincoln County Jail, 133 Federal St. in Wiscasset, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
