George E. Gould Sr.

DUNNELLON, Fla. – George Ellis Gould, 88, of Citrus Springs, Fla., passed away peacefully on May 12, 2024, at E. W. Lucille Cates Hospice House in Ocala from double pneumonia and other complications. As a young man, George joined the United States Army and was a Tanker during the Korean War. While living in Dunnellon, He owned and operated Gould’s Auto and Repair Shops on both sides of Hwy 41 in Dunnellon. He loved his work being an auto mechanic and worked up until he was eighty years old before retiring. George volunteered his time as a member of the Dunnellon Masonic Lodge and the Low 40’s Club. He was loved by many in the community. He was giving person who helped many in need. In his leisure time, George enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, skeet shooting, motorcycling, music, gardening and spending time on his property in Georgia, which he claimed was “heaven on earth”. George was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs, Fla., and was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi in Blairsville, Ga. His family would like to extend their thank you’s to Hospice care at Cates House for the wonderful care George received. He is preceded in death by his son, George Ellis Gould, Jr. He leaves behind a daughter, Danita, New York; a grandson, Darren Chappelle and a granddaughter, Nikki Gould, New York; his three great-grandchildren; his stepson, Rick Fleury, Beverly Hills and Larry Fleury, Augusta, Maine; his stepgrandchildren, Derrick Farmer, Vermont, Tony Fleury, Maine, Kyliene Reyes, Florida and six great-stepgrandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 10 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Citrus Springs, Fla. Interment will be held at a later date in Maine. Arrangements are under the careful direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Dunnellon.
