The town of Sidney’s Memorial Day parade and ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Monday, May 27.
Henry Gemery, Korean War veteran, will be this year’s grand marshall, leading the parade in an antique car driven by David Fleury.
Veterans, local organizations and others may join the parade as it assembles at the Sidney Transfer Station Drive, off Middle Road, at 9:30 a.m. Some antique vehicles may be available for those veterans who prefer not to walk.
Major General Bill Libby will be master of ceremonies.
Terrance Coley will perform the National Anthem. The Messalonskee High School Band will provide musical selections, and The Kennebec Valley Chordsmen will perform patriotic songs.
Guest speaker Donald Cole will speak about the families who support servicemen and women.
Scout Troop 401 will provide a color guard as well as a hot dog/hamburger lunch and treats.
The Sidney Historical Society plans to host an open house in the Grange following the ceremony.
In the event of rain, attendees will move inside the Grange. Seating will be provided; people can bring their own chairs if they wish.
Those who wish to participate or have questions can call Maura Gammans at 207-512-6402 or Jeffery Frost, U.S. Navy retired, at 207-547-4343.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
