Pre-Roe, I had friends who had to leave the country to obtain a procedure that was illegal here, and others who worked in the underground movement in Chicago to make sure women didn’t die getting an illegal abortion.
Shortly after Roe, I had an abortion. I had been using contraception, was in graduate school, and earning $5,000 a year. It never occurred to me that 40 years on, there would be people who were determined that my decision was one that the government should be allowed to control.
Today, Republicans and a few Democrats are convinced that women can’t be trusted to make decisions about what is best for themselves.
Both candidates for House District 65 are nice people. Only one of them will protect the freedom women have fought so hard to protect. And only one will vote to protect the rights of LGBTQAI people. Vote for Cassie.
