OK folks, here is our chance to see improvement in journalism, right here in good ole’ Maine. Please pay attention. Thank you.
No, it is not an effort to cancel an editorial page cartoon, depicting a U. S. Supreme Court Justice’s attempt to blame his wife for flying the Stars and Stripes upside-down, from the family flagpole!
Nor is it the good-faith attempt at displaying a front-page article explaining the legality of the University of Maine in Augusta paying a former president $372,000, without ever working a day. And $20,000 monthly still in play. A goof-ball circumstance.
Now, for quality journalism, fit to work our heart-strings. Did you catch the newsprint display of 10 of Maine Central Institute student’s educational awards earned in high school (“Maine Central Institute names top 10 students,” May 22)? It was historical, in my mind, intentionally omitting mention of future next-step studies, in a concluding paragraph.
Why the need to combine future plans to past achievements? Like throwing a towel of individual decisions that are not the business of others. Congratulations to students caring enough to give themselves a chance.
The subject article impressed me for what was read. It was relevant. Nothing was missing. I read it twice.
