Muriel Young Niles

FARMINGDALE – Muriel Young Niles, 95, died peacefully at the Captain Lewis Residence on May 25, 2024, where she had been residing for the past three years. She was born in Houlton on May 16, 1929, the daughter of William A. Young of Houlton and Rowena Andersen of Bangor.

Muriel resided in Hallowell from her early teenage years and graduated from Hallowell High School in 1947. She married the love of her life, Ernie. on May 27, 1948. Early in her career, she worked as a telephone operator with the New England Telephone Company, and, in 1963, she moved forward with her career with the State of Maine. She retired from the State of Maine in 1990 as the Supervisor of Telecommunications after 27 years of service.

She will be remembered for her love of family. She enjoyed gardening, travelling, following the University of Maine’s Women’s Basketball team and spending time at the family camp on Lake Cobbossee. She was a devoted member of The Cox Memorial United Methodist Church in Hallowell.

She was predeceased by husband, Ernest A Niles, in 1980. She is survived by her son, Ernest A. Niles, Jr. and his wife Vicky, and her daughter, Shirley A. Boucher and her husband Bruce; her two granddaughters, Rebecca Niles Treat and her husband Kevin, and Kelly Boucher Morris and her husband Brandon; one great granddaughter, Rylie Treat, and two great grandsons, Rowan and Wesley Morris.

A graveside ceremony will be held at the Hallowell Cemetery on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10 a.m. for family and friends.
