AUGUSTA — The Bureau of Insurance reminds Maine residents to exercise caution and take action to protect personal information. This is especially important as a result of the recent cyberattack on Change Healthcare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, which impacted millions of people.
In response to the attack, UnitedHealth Group is providing two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection to anyone who wishes to access this service. Individuals can obtain more information by accessing unitedhealthgroup.com or calling 1-866-262-5342.
Individuals do not need to be a member of UnitedHealth Group to take advantage of the monitoring and protection.
Consumers who choose to sign up for credit monitoring will be directed to a third party that administers the credit monitoring on behalf of UnitedHealth Group and will not have to provide any personal information to UnitedHealth Group.
Consumers with questions about insurance matters can obtain information and assistance from the Maine Bureau of Insurance by visiting maine.gov/insurance, calling 800-300-5000 (TTY call Maine Relay 711), or emailing [email protected].

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
