Linda Ann Matthews
FAYETTE – Linda Ann Matthews, 73, of Fayette, known as Lindy to most, passed away peacefully in her home the morning of May 28, 2024 surrounded by family.
Linda was born July 24, 1950, to John and Anne Reynolds. The oldest of five children, she had a studious nature excelling in private Catholic school, graduating from Mt. Trinity in Watertown, Mass., before attending St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. It was in college she met Gene, who she often described as the love of her life. They were married May 11, 1972 in the university chapel, the day after graduating. Partners for life, they were together for 52 years.
She led a full life, traveling with her husband, before having three children. Linda stayed at home with her children as a full-time mother, and her house was often where all the neighborhood kids hung out. She had many jobs in her lifetime including accounting, tax preparation, and sales assistant, but family was her passion spending many summers with them lakeside.
Linda was always a warm empathic soul that people were drawn to. She had a calm presence, was an excellent listener, and had a sassy sense of humor. Linda had many good friends who kept in touch with her. She liked to read, do crossword puzzles and cooking. She survived cancer twice, beating them both, before early onset dementia took its toll on her.
She is survived by her husband Gene; her children and grandchildren, Heather, Jeff and his wife Amy with their two kids Tyler and Anna; and Brett and his wife Kate and their two sons Johny and Mattie. She is also survived by her four siblings John, Joan, Anne and Robert; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
