Jean Pauline (Lord) Andreasen
FARMINGDALE – This woman is a mountain hiker. After a lifetime of accomplishment and a multitude of interests, when someone asked her about her life, she would answer “I am a mountain hiker”.
Jean Pauline (Lord) Andreasen, 87, formerly of Farmingdale, passed away from complications due to Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 5:45 a.m.
Jean climbed her last earthly mountain and has ascended to heaven where she can be at peace with Jesus and continue her love story with her beloved Clif.
She was born in Presque Isle, Maine on Nov. 15, 1936, as the third of eight children to Percy and Pauline Lord.
Jean was a graduate of Presque Isle High School (Class of 1955), a graduate of Maine Medical Center’s School of Nursing with a degree in Nursing (Class of 1958). Later in life, she went back to college to receive her BS with honors in Community Health Education from the University of Maine at Farmington (Class of 1984). Jean was a hard worker as a young girl. Recently, her family crowned her Potato Queen after finding out she could pick 100 barrels of potatoes a day and retain enough energy to help her father tally the production slips that evening. Jean had this type of energy her entire life. Even in the Alzheimer Center – she never stopped moving.
On June 6, 1959, she married her forever soulmate, Clifford L. Andreasen (Clif). They were happily married until Clif’s unexpected death in 2013. They were the epitome of love, romance, and commitment between partners. Jean and Clif were blessed with three children — Valerie Jean, Scott Clifford, and Christian Lee. Family time and adventures in nature were the ultimate joy for the Andreasen family.
Jean filled her years with a multitude of passions. She loved being a nurse, furthering her education to become a Public Health Nurse and then in recent years, a hospice volunteer. Jean started sewing in high school, making most of her own clothing. As an advanced seamstress, Jean could find a classy dress in a high-end store, go home, and recreate it – what a talent. She took her sewing talent to another level when she started a sewing store (Knits & Notions) and taught many students the art of sewing on stretchy material. She fell in love with the baskets of the Native Americans in the Southwest and created a technical manual on elaborate basket making. After she retired from nursing, she gave weekly (free) basket making classes in her home to friends and family. In her lifetime she made over 400 spectacular baskets.
Some of the community groups that she and Clif volunteered for were Scouting (Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Webelos, Boy Scouts), and Kennebec County Community Emergency Response Team.
Jean and Clif started the Sea & Mountain Outing Club. A group that combined their common passion of mountain hiking, cross country skiing, sea kayaking, and camping with great folks that became great friends.
When Jean and Clif were not on a S&M Adventure, they were square dancing and round dancing with the Pinecone Reelers. Another group where they developed great friendships.
Jean is survived by her sister Phyllis Holmes and brother Linwood Lord and wife Wendy; her beloved three children Valerie Andreasen (Steven Harvey), Scott Andreasen, Christian Andreasen and wife Kathy, and Cathy Federico who was like a daughter; five grandchildren, Lindsey Graham Mattson and husband Aaron, James Graham and wife Denise, Andrea Fredericks (Ayden Young), Tyler Andreasen (Ericka Melanson), Elizabeth Andreasen and husband Shane Andreasen; seven great-grandchildren, Jade, Jack, Dior Graham, Gage, Reagan, Thor Mattson, and Samuel Andreasen; as well as many extended family members and countless friends.
Jean was predeceased by her beloved soulmate and best friend Clifford “Clif” Andreasen; her parents; two brothers, Harry, Glenn, and three sisters, Marlene, Delores, and Carol.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 10 at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, One Church Street, Augusta from 4-7 p.m. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 11, at Granite Hill Church, Town Farm Road, Hallowell at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
