Maxine (Briggs) Buzzell

VIENNA – Maxine (Briggs) Buzzell, 79, of Vienna, Maine, passed away on May 31, 2024.

Maxine dedicated her life to Special Olympics and was an area coordinator for Somerset County Special Olympics. She received a volunteer of the year award from Mrs. Kennedy Shriver and a lifetime achievement award for Special Olympics.

Maxine is survived by her husband Jayson Buzzell of 24 years; a sister, Joanne Grignon and her life partner John Kelly of Machias; two daughters, Vanessa Greenleaf and her husband Robert of Winslow, and Veronica Overlock and her husband Alex of Winslow, two sons, Vincent Briggs and his wife Ellen of Madison, and Vance Briggs of Frost Proof, Fla. Maxine had nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Badger, her father, Richard Briggs, and her grandson, Clint James Briggs.

Maxine worked in the Lewiston shoe shop in her early years, then at the L.C. Dill Center, before going on to work at Augusta Mental Health. Maxine dedicated her life to Special Olympics and taking adventure rides, always finding new places to explore, she never called it getting lost.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.
