YORK — Maddie Fitzgerald and Sarah Orso hit home runs as the top-seeded York softball team advanced to the Class B South final with a 10-0 six-inning win over No. 5 Gardiner on Saturday.
McKayla Kortes pitched a one-hitter, and also had two hits and two RBIs. York (18-0), the reigning Class B champion, finished with 14 hits, including three by Emily Estes.
No. 5 Gardiner finishes 12-7.
NYA 12, CARRABEC 2: The top-seeded Panthers scored six runs in the sixth inning to invoke the 10-run rule in a Class D South semifinal victory in Yarmouth.
Jordan Nash paced an 11-hit attack with three hits for NYA (17-1). Cami Casserly had two hits, Hayden Wienckowski smacked a triple, and Sadie Morgan chipped in with a double.
Lily Rawnsley allowed one earned run on five hits while striking out six as NYA, the defending state champion, advanced to Tuesday’s regional final against No. 2 Buckfield.
No. 4 Carrabec finished 12-6.
BASEBALL
SACOPEE VALLEY 11, MT. ABRAM 1: The second-seeded Hawks opened with six runs in the bottom of the first, fueled by a two-run double from Bryce Stacy, as they took five innings to dispatch the third-seeded Roadrunners in a Class C South semifinal at Hiram.
James Ritter grabbed the win for Sacopee Valley (14-4), going 4 2/3 innings allowing one run on two hits, while fanning nine and added a hit and three RBI at the plate.
The No. 3 Roadrunners finished 12-6.
