RANGELEY — Voters approved a $5.7 million budget for Regional School Unit 78 on Tuesday. The vote was 272 to 82.

Tallies for the four district members are: Rangeley, 181-52; Dallas Plantation, 48-10; Rangeley Plantation, 24-15; and Sandy River Plantation, 19-5.

The spending package is $249,874.56, or 4.57% more than this year’s budget.

There are some changes in salary costs due to a 3% wage increase for teachers and a $2 adjustment plus a 5% increase in wages for support staff, an increase of $88,285.20 over the existing budget, according to Superintendent Georgia Campbell’s letter to district residents.

“This year there is a decrease of $40,618.80 over last year in health and dental benefits due to some changes in staffing,” she wrote.

Other changes that affected the budget are higher energy costs and higher state contribution of nearly $90,100, making it $379,833.48, because of higher enrollment and the cost of special education. Other factors are the district is a minimum receiver of state subsidy and the American Rescue Plan Act funds ending in September.
