The Waterville Elementary PTA hosted its second annual Community Carnival June 1 at the George J. Mitchell Elementary School. This event celebrates educators, firefighters, police officers, paramedics, librarians, artists, and community leaders.

Children and their families got to explore two different Waterville Fire Department trucks, a Waterville Police Department cruiser, and a Delta Ambulance. They also got to explore their creative side with both Colby Art Museum and Waterville Creates. The Waterville library was giving away seeds and leading children through the book walk along Reed Field. Rita’s Catering kept hungry families fed, as children raced through a 50-feet long bounce house-obstacle course, provided by a donation by Woodlands Senior Living of Waterville.

In the cafeteria, families could take selfies with Waterville Mayor Mike Morris. Families picked up swag because of Educare’s Parent Ambassadors. Readers of all ages got to pick out free books because of Lisa Covey. Children got their faces painted. Families also got to play a variety of carnival games for prizes, which were provided by a donation by Central Maine Motors.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
