HALLOWELL – Margaret Mae (Hickland) Thayer, born Sept. 13, 1927, passed away of natural causes, on June 6, 2024, in the early morning hours, at Woodland Senior Living Center in Hallowell Maine. She was 96 years old.

She was predeceased by her father and mother, Reverend David R. Hickland and his wife Madge. Her son David Thayer, brother Ken Hickland, aunt Louise, her grandfather Reverend David Hickland and his wife Gertrude.

Living in Gardiner, Margaret married shortly after graduating high school and over the course of her marriage, she had 12 children: David (deceased), Richard, Peter, James, Margo, Suzin, Lynn, Berta, Kendra, Thomas, Gertrude (Trudi) and Tina.

She had 26 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, knitting, and traveling all over Maine. She enjoyed spending time with her closest friends and had the cutest giggle. Margaret was also a huge Red Sox fan. She was an avid collector of duck paraphernalia and had a strong passion for lobster and chocolate. Any conversation with Margaret, you were sure to hear her pride of 12 children.

We would like to thank, The Inn at City Hall (Maine General Medical Center), Woodland Senior Living and Dr. Murray James (Hallowell Family Practice) for the care they provided to our mother.

There will be a private graveside ceremony for family and close friends.
