NEWCASTLE — The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers is set to host an open hive day starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Jane Dunstan’s home at 621 North Newcastle Road.
Maine State Apiarist and Bee Inspector Jenn Lund will lead the group inspecting a number of her hives.
This is an opportunity for all beekeepers to compare early season buildup in their hives and learn more about actions to be taken early in the season to guarantee a strong honey crop and a healthy bee population throughout the summer.
Participants can learn how to spot a poor performing queen and boost a weaker hive with resources from stronger hives.
There will be a potluck lunch following the hive opening; beekeepers are encouraged to bring food to share.
