Mary S. Park

SCARBOROUGH – Mary S. Park, 97, passed away on June 16, 2024. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Oct. 20, 1926, the daughter of de Villers William Steytler and Florence Caskey Steytler. She moved to Philadelphia, where she attended Philadelphia schools and graduated from Swarthmore College.

She married John Bartram Bement in 1947. Following his death in 1955, she married William Richard Park in 1957, moving to Amherst, Mass. in 1979. They retired to a vacation home in Belgrade Lakes, ME in 1990. Following Dick Park’s death in 2001, she moved to Piper Shores in 2005. Mary was a charter member of Union Church of Belgrade Lakes, United Methodist.

Mary was predeceased by her parents; a brother, de Villers William Steytler, Jr; and husbands John Bement and Dick Park.

She is survived by daughter Anne Bement Seekamp and her husband Gavin, of Higgins Beach, ME, son John Bartram Bement, Jr. and wife Judith of Amherst, NH, son William Richard Park, Jr. and his wife Regis of Saco, ME; five grandchildren, Craigen Bement Laiho, John Bartram Bement III and his wife Laura, Logan Martin Bement, Elizabeth Steytler Park and Christian de Villiers Park; and three great grandchildren.
