Friends of Merrymeeting Bay plans to host ornithologist Will Broussard to lead a bird walk from 7-9 a.m. Saturday, July 6, in Dresden.
Merrymeeting Bay is internationally recognized for its unique tidal freshwater ecosystem. This environment attracts a diversity of birds drawn to its special qualities and the Bay is recognized by The American Bird Conservancy as a Globally Important Bird Conservation Area, according to a news release from FOMB’s Ed Friedman.
Broussard, a Bowdoinham native, has been outreach coordinator for the Mount Washington Observatory and since 2021 has been Science and Writing Specialist for the Maine-based mushroom company North Spore. He studied conservation biology at Antioch University New England graduate school and years ago was the youngest person certified by Cornell’s Ornithology Lab to record bird sounds.
This walk will be on easy terrain in the Green Point Wildlife Management Area. Participants should wear sturdy shoes offering protection from mud and water and be cognizant of ticks. The walk will occur rain or shine.
For directions and to register, call Friedman at 207-666-3372.
