The Central Maine Garden Club in Waterville recently received a $2,000 grant from the National Garden Plant America Committee.
The club was the only recipient in Maine and only one in a handful of club recipients nationwide, out of over 130 entries from around the county.
The grant will support the CMGC as it initiates the addition of the Classic Shade Garden behind the Redington Museum in Waterville, and finishes the Classic Garden Perennials space, called the Treasure Hunt Garden.
These gardens will not only enhance the outdoor public space of the museum through the plantings and the use of the storyboards which explain the purpose of each space, but also allow visitors to use the QR code to learn about each plant, and to examine the plants as they walk a path, according to a news release from the club.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
