Jean E. Guimond

AUGUSTA – Jean E. Guimond of Augusta passed away on May 30, 2024 at Maine General peacefully. Jean was born in Augusta on March 17, 1937. She graduated from Cony High School in 1955.

She married Joseph H.G. Couture then divorced after 20 years. She was married to Laurier Guimond for 36 years. (who has passed recently on June 18).

They loved being snowbirds going to Clearwater, Fla. for the last 20 years. She has been here in Maine the last few years. She kept herself busy making hats for babies and adults. Donating them to Sew for a Cause in Vassalboro.

She belonged to the Maine State Grange holding many offices over the years, the American Legion and Woman’s Auxiliary, and a member of the Calumet club in Augusta. She enjoyed Genealogy along with her sister-in-law Connie. She was a member of the Lutheran Church on Eastern Avenue (now known as Emmanuel Lutheran Episcopal Church). She worked for the State of Maine before she retired.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, Catherine and Robert Whittemore, Michael Couture, Jason and Daylene Couture, stepchildren Danny (predeceased) and Gladys Guimond, Patrick and Tina Guimond, Vic and Julie Guimond; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister Hazel, brother Richard Shaw and his wife Connie. She is also predeceased by her stepson Danny Guimond.

A big Thank You to the staff at Maine General for making my mothers final days comfortable.

There will be no funeral services at this time. In the future there will be a double funeral at the Maine Veterans Cemetery where Jean and Larry will be laid to rest.
