The Carrabassett Valley Public Library is launching its summer reading program.
The first 20 participants can pick up an Adventure Begins at Your Library backpack with enclosed reading log, stickers, bookmarks and a Backyard Scavenger Hunt card. Participants choose a pile of library books to borrow and bring them home in their new backpack.
Participants also will get to choose two free books to keep from a limited collection of Scholastic books.
Passive programming allows children and families the opportunity to stop by the air-conditioned library anytime during open hours to do the activity of the week, or bring the idea/activity home for another time. Activities will also be posted on the Carrabassett Valley Public Library Facebook page.
Summer hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
Weekly activities are as follows:
July 10-13 — DIY Scavenger Hunt;
July 17-20— Micro Adventure;
July 24-27; Stick Tac Toe; and
July 31 to Aug. 3 — Camping Bingo.

Comments are not available on this story. Read more about why we allow commenting on some stories and not on others.
We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
