The Phillips Public Library’s eighth annual Readers, Writers and Runners 5K, is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, July 20, will feature local mystery author Maureen Milliken.
Registration for the race will cost $10 and begins at 9 a.m. in the library parking lot, 96 Main St. in Phillips. The race will be followed by an awards ceremony and prize raffle for all participants.
The race course follows a scenic route through downtown Phillips and past the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad, featuring two bridge crossings of the Sandy River and mountain views on a clear day. This year’s medals will be ceramic, crafted by Andrea Bredeau of Cabin Pottery.
After the 5K wraps up at 11 a.m., the public is welcome to participate in a free discussion with Milliken, the author of the Bernie O’Dea mystery series, set in a fictional Franklin County town near Phillips and Carrabassett Valley. Books will be available for purchase at the event.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
