In response to “Russia presses its offensive in Ukraine, issues new threats,” (June 30). The first sentence, “Slowly but steadily this summer, Russian troops are forging through Ukraine’s outgunned and undermanned defenses along the front line of the battlefield in a relentless onslaught,” sounds a lot like the Russian predecessors, the Soviets, during the second World War: “You can slow them down, even to a crawl, but you can’t stop them.” That’s exactly why also stated in this article was: “Putin declared that Moscow wasn’t seeking quick gains and would stick to the current strategy of advancing slowly.”
This is how Russians operate and this is exactly why no group has ever occupied all of Russia since the Mongols. Russia has a much larger population than Ukraine and that’s probably why whatever land Russia takes, Russia will keep.
The bottom line is, America is wasting money backing the eventual loser: Ukraine. Russia is not going to attack any NATO country like Joe Biden says it will in the future. Russia has plenty of non-NATO countries it can take over. The strong take from the weak because the weak can’t stop them. The weak will fall because the strong shall survive. However else you want to say it, America cannot stop Russia from taking any land outside of NATO territory. In fact, the day we should trust anything Joe Biden says about Russia, should be the very exact day he can talk for 90 minutes straight without mangling any sentences he says.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
