DAMARISCOTTA — Former CIA Director John Brennan will address the challenges and opportunities facing the United States from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Lincoln Theater, 2 Theater St. Moderated by former Associated Press reporter Michael Putzel, the session will feature audience participation.
Brennan, who served six presidents from Jimmy Carter to Barack Obama during his 34-year government career, is now a senior intelligence and national security analyst for NBC and MSNBC and advises various private sector companies. He will discuss topics including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-HAMAS conflict, China’s rise, technology’s impact, disinformation, and climate change, according to a news release from Jeniffer Cooley, owner and marketing strategist of Bmalori Creative based in Midcoast Maine.
Recalling fond memories from Old Orchard Beach and his family’s vacations in Damariscotta, Brennan has a personal connection to the area.
“I was privileged to serve my country for over 30 years in a variety of national security and intelligence roles,” Brennan stated. “In retirement, I volunteer my time and share my experiences with university students, community groups, and others interested in our country’s history and future. When invited to participate in an event sponsored by The Carpenter’s Boat Shop, I learned about the Boat Shop’s history, its commitment to ‘nurturing and enriching lives,’ and its impressive apprenticeship program. Understanding their work and accomplishments, I readily agreed to support their admirable mission.”
