In regards to the recent article in the Morning Sentinel concerning the controversy at Lake George Regional Park, I believe the trouble stems from one primary issue; that being the contempt with which local residents of Canaan have been treated by the park.
The thoroughfare on the east side of Lake George has been used by natives and locals alike for hundreds of years for the simple pleasures of swimming, fishing, and relaxing on hot summer days. The park has harassed and threatened the residents of Canaan for parking their vehicles on that stretch of way in order to engage in the traditional pursuits named above.
In as much as the thoroughfare leads to the park’s recreational area, it may be that they don’t wish to have their clientele suffer the indignities of witnessing the great unwashed at their leisure, but I would venture that a “live and let live” attitude would go a long way towards defusing the situation.

We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
For those stories that we do enable discussion, our system may hold up comments pending the approval of a moderator for several reasons, including possible violation of our guidelines. As the Maine Trust’s digital team reviews these comments, we ask for patience.
Comments are managed by our staff during regular business hours Monday through Friday and limited hours on Saturday and Sunday. Comments held for moderation outside of those hours may take longer to approve.
